Something surreal happened with the comic this week.
Mostly Working is based on my life. The people in my office, the things that happen at work, the moments that are a little too real. None of the characters are actual people. They're inspired by the people around me, but they're not them.
What's changed is that with AI, those moments come to life almost as soon as they happen. Something funny happens on a Tuesday, and by Wednesday it's a strip.
So here's what happened. A buddy of mine is at bedtime with his kid. He's supposed to be reading a book. He's scrolling LinkedIn instead, and one of my comics pops up in the feed. The kid wants to read that one. He reads it out loud. And the kid's verdict is absolutely clear: not funny.
He texts me: "Tell Joe to make the comic funny next time." So I did the only reasonable thing. I made a comic about it.
I genuinely can't tell where the comic ends and the life starts anymore. I think that's the point.
